In order to maintain our roads and to ensure smooth traffic flow, there are road projects carried out around Singapore from time to time.
Commuter and Road Infrastructure Works in Pasir Ris and Loyang
The project involves the widening of Pasir Ris Drive 3 (between Pasir Ris Central and Loyang Avenue), Loyang Way, New Loyang Link Road, Old Tampines Road and Upper Changi Road North and its associated commuter facilities such as bus shelters, covered linkways, cycling tracks and footpaths. In addition, new roads will be constructed in Loyang Industrial Park, new retaining walls along Loyang Avenue and a section of Selarang Canal will be upgraded.
When completed, the widened road will improve traffic flow along this corridor and enhance the overall road network accessibility for the upcoming developments in the vicinity.

Construction of New Road at Punggol
The project involves the construction of a new road linking Seletar North Link and Punggol East. It involves the construction of two new vehicular bridges over existing canals, construction of retaining walls, cycling tracks and associated road works.
When completed, this new road will provide direct connection from Seletar North Link to Punggol East, providing greater accessibility for residents and motorists.

Enhancement of Tampines Avenue 10 between Tampines Avenue 5 and Tampines Expressway
The project involves the widening of Tampines Avenue 10 to dual 4-lane with a bus lane in each direction.
When completed, it will ensure the reliability of bus services due to the new developments in the area.

Senja / Kranji Expressway (KJE) Interchange
Temporary Road Closure on Kranji Expressway (Westbound)

As part of the ongoing works for the construction of Senja / Kranji Expressway (KJE) Flyover Interchange, the Land Transport Authority will be temporarily closing Kranji Expressway towards PIE Tuas between BKE Exit 5 and KJE Exit 2 (exit to Woodlands Road). KJE towards BKE remains passable to traffic at all times.
The temporary closure will be implemented on 12 March 2021 from 12.00am to 05.00am, to facilitate the bridge structural works.
Motorists are advised to drive carefully.

Temporary Closure of Slip Road to KJE(PIE, Tuas) from Senja Road

Realignment of KJE (BKE) and Relocation of Exit 1

To facilitate the completion of the Senja / Kranji Expressway (KJE) Flyover Interchange, KJE(BKE) has been realigned and the existing Exit 1 have been relocated upstream with effect from 19 January 2020. Motorists travelling along KJE(BKE) towards BKE(SLE) will have to exit earlier at the new Exit 1, whilst motorists travelling along KJE(BKE) towards the city via BKE(PIE) are advised to keep right.
Project Brief
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a contract to Quek & Quek Civil Engineering Pte Ltd for the construction of a new road interchange at Senja / Kranji Expressway (KJE) Interchange.
The new road interchange will provide direct connection from Senja Road to both bounds of KJE and greater accessibility for motorists travelling to and from Senja and Bukit Panjang area.
The local road network at Senja Road / Senja Link and the stretch of KJE between Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) and Yew Tee Flyover (Woodlands Road) will also be widened.
Construction works has commenced in early 2018 and is scheduled for completion by 2022.

Widening of Tampines Road between Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway and Tampines Avenue 10
The project involves the widening of Tampines Road between Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) and Tampines Avenue 10 from 1-lane to 3-lane in both directions.
When completed, it will enhance the overall road network accessibility for the on-going developments in the vicinity.

Construction of Viaduct from TPE to PIE (Westbound) and Upper Changi Road East
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the replacement tender of the Tampines Expressway (TPE)-Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) Changi Viaduct to Hwa Seng Builder Pte Ltd to construct a two-lane one-way viaduct from TPE (Changi) to the PIE (Westbound) and Upper Changi Road East. The works will also include the re-alignment of this stretch of TPE and PIE. Works are currently ongoing.
When completed, the TPE-PIE Changi Viaduct will provide a direct connection for motorists travelling from TPE (Changi) to PIE (Westbound) and Upper Changi Road East by bypassing the stretch of TPE (Changi) between Loyang Flyover and Upper Changi Flyover and the existing signalised junctions with Loyang Ave and Upper Changi Road North.
Completion date: 1st Half 2022

Construction of Vehicular Underpass at PIE Exit 26A
The project involves the construction of a new vehicular underpass at PIE Exit 26A, and as part of the works, the existing slip road at Exit 26A will be removed and relocated upstream.
In addition, Hua Guan Ave (Part) will be realigned and widened to a standard dual 1-lane road.
When completed, motorists will be able to exit the expressway using the left lane, thereby improving overall traffic flow for this stretch of the PIE.

Commuter and Road Infrastructure Works at Bedok North Avenue 1 between Bedok North Street 1 and New Upper Changi Road
The project involves the widening a section of Bedok North Ave 1 between Bedok North St 1 and New Upper Changi Rd from dual 2-lane to dual 3-lane carriageway, construction of new retaining walls, covered linkways and cycling tracks.
When completed, the widened road will help to alleviate the traffic congestion along this stretch of road. Connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists will also be improved.

Completion of KPE / TPE Interchange Expansion
On 28 November 2020 from 05.00am, a new slip road, which provides an additional route option between Punggol Central and the Tampines Expressway TPE (CTE/SLE) was opened to traffic. The new slip road connects Halus Link with TPE (CTE/SLE) and will help to ease the current traffic along Punggol East.
This marks the completion of a two-phase expansion of the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) and the Tampines Expressway TPE (KPE/TPE) interchange. The expanded interchange will serve existing and new developments in Punggol Town by improving connectivity between KPE and TPE with Punggol Central, Pasir Ris Industrial Drive 1 and Lorong Halus. Since the progressive opening of the roads from 2018, traffic conditions have improved at TPE between Punggol Way and KPE, and the existing access points of Punggol Town through Punggol Road and Punggol East.

Road Works at Tanah Merah Coast Road
The project involves the realignment of a 3km section of the existing Tanah Merah Coast Road between Changi Lodge 2 and RSS Singapura Changi Naval Base as part of the works to support the developments at Changi East.

New Road Connections to Seletar Link and Widening of TPE between Jalan Kayu and Punggol West Flyover
The project involves the construction of a new road interchange at Seletar Link / Tampines Expressway (TPE) and widening of TPE between Jalan Kayu and Punggol West Flyovers.
When completed, the road interchange will provide an alternate route for motorists travelling from Punggol Town to Seletar Expressway (SLE) and Central Expressway (CTE) and cater for developments at Pulau Punggol Timor.
The project also involves the improvement works at the junction of Buangkok East Drive and Buangkok Drive. The approaches along Buangkok East Drive and Buangkok Drive have been widened with an additional lane to ease congestion during peak hours. These improvement works had been completed in March 2018.

Earthworks at Lim Chu Kang Area
The project involves earthworks at Lim Chu Kang Area to prepare the ground for the subsequent realignment of Lim Chu Kang Road. This is in support of the expansion of Tengah Air Base to facilitate the relocation of Paya Lebar Air Base.

Widening of Tampines Avenue 7 from TPE to Tampines Street 34
The project involves the widening of Tampines Ave 7 between TPE and Tampines St 34 from dual 2-lane to dual 3-lane carriageway, extension of existing pedestrian overhead bridge and reconstruction of bus shelters and linkway.
When completed, the widened road will help to alleviate the traffic congestion along this stretch of the road. Connectivity for pedestrians, cyclists and bus commuters using the new bus shelters will also be improved.

Works at Balmoral Road / Bukit Timah Road Junction and Newton Circus
The scope of works includes the improvement works at Balmoral Road / Bukit Timah Road and Newton Circus. Addition of 4 U-turn facilities along the respective junctions; lane widening and construction of sheltered walkways, bus shelters and drains.
When completed, it will improve the traffic flow along the corridor, enhancing travel experience for both motorist and commuters.

Upgrading of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jalan Anak Bukit

The main scope of ER480A – Upgrading of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jalan Anak Bukit project comprises:
- Widening a stretch of Jalan Anak Bukit (at grade) from 2 to 3 lanes and providing a storage lane for the slip road to PIE;
- Widening Jalan Jurong Kechil between Toh Tuck Road and Upper Bukit Timah Road from 2 to 3 lanes;
- Construction of a new 3 lane city bound carriageway along Upper Bukit Timah Road between Jalan Jurong Kechil and Clementi and;
- Other commuter facilities such as covered linkway and cycling tracks.
The major works along Jalan Anak Bukit are on-going and the storage lane leading to the slip road towards PIE(Changi) has been completed and opened to traffic. The junction of Jalan Anak Bukit and Jalan Jurong Kechil would also be expanded with more traffic lanes to improve the traffic flow at this junction and is expected to be completed by 4Q2019.
Most of the road works along Jalan Jurong Kechil (both bounds) had been completed and the road had been widened from dual 2 to dual 3, including improvement to Toh Tuck Road and Jalan Jurong Kechil junction. Other commuter facilities such as covered linkway along Jalan Jurong Kechil are mostly completed except for the remaining two high covered linkways which are targeted to complete by 4Q2019.
The construction of a new 3 lanes city-bound carriageway along Upper Bukit Timah Road, between Jalan Jurong Kechil and Clementi Road, is well in progress. This stretch of Upper Bukit Timah is targeted to be converted to two-way traffic by 1st half of 2020.
Works at Slip Road from PIE to Airport Boulevard
The project involves the widening of the existing slip road from PIE to Airport Boulevard from 2 to 3 lanes, including the construction of a new vehicular and utility bridge across the existing Changi Airport Diversion Canal.
When completed, it will enhance the capacity of the existing slip road from PIE to Airport Boulevard.

Flyover at Mediapolis and Expunction of Portion of Portsdown Road
JTC Corporation (JTC) has constructed a new flyover at the Mediapolis precinct in one-north. The flyover, which will be opened on 12 May 2019, 12.30am, connects Portsdown Avenue and the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) to facilitate vehicular traffic flow in and out of one-north. The affected portion of Portsdown Road will be expunged upon the opening of the flyover as pictured below.

The Lornie Highway (Northbound)
New Northbound Lornie Highway
A new Sime underpass and the new Northbound Lornie Highway will progressively open in two phases in March and April 2019 respectively. The phased approach was adopted given the expected increase in traffic flow from end March to early April due to the Qing Ming Festival.
Opening of New Sime Underpass
One bound of the Sime Underpass has been opened to traffic on 24 March 2019 (Sunday). It will connect motorists from Lornie Road (southbound) to Lornie Highway (southbound) and Kheam Hock Road. With this direct connection, the temporary road connection from Sime Road and the signalised junction along Lornie Highway (southbound) has been removed. Full Opening of Lornie Highway
The northbound Lornie Highway towards MacRitchie Viaduct, Adam Underpass and the remaining bound of Sime Underpass will open at 3am on 19 April 2019 (Friday). The Adam Underpass will allow motorists from PIE (Tuas) heading towards PIE (Changi) to have a seamless connection onto Lornie Highway (northbound) towards MacRitchie Viaduct, while the remaining bound of Sime Underpass will bring traffic from Kheam Hock Road towards Lornie Road (northbound). Together with the southbound Lornie Highway that was opened in October 2018, the new Lornie Highway and underpasses will improve traffic flow along Lornie Road and the PIE, and cater to expected growth in future traffic demand. Bus Routes
With the opening of the northbound Lornie Highway, a new bus stop will be constructed along the new access road to Sime Road estate. After completing the bus stop, 5 out of the 7 current existing bus services (52, 74, 93, 852, 855) that are currently plying Lornie Road would then ply on the new northbound Lornie Highway. The change in the bus routes is expected by 3Q 2019.
