Understanding VRN
Your VRN must be displayed on the front and back plates of your vehicle. Before you buy a new vehicle, first decide if you want to use a VRN automatically assigned by LTA, or a VRN of your choice.
If you would like a VRN of your choice, bid for your preferred VRN before buying a new vehicle.
You can also retain your VRN from an existing vehicle and assign it to your new vehicle.
Learn how to retain the VRN of an existing vehicle
If you did not bid for a preferred VRN or assign the VRN from your existing vehicle to your new vehicle, LTA will automatically assign you a VRN from the current VRN Allocation Pool when your motor dealer registers your vehicle. Once your vehicle has received the auto-assigned VRN, you will need to pay a fee of $327 (inclusive of GST) to replace it.
