Enquire Mobility Scooter Certificate of Medical Need Status

Check your Certificate of Medical Need or Exemption Status

From 1 June 2026, users of mobility scooters or equivalent devices1 will be required to obtain a valid Certificate of Medical Need to use their devices on public paths.

The following groups are exempted from the certification requirement:

  1. Seniors aged 70 and above (automatically exempted and do not need to check exemption status, unless they require a device larger than the allowable dimensions).
  2. All existing and prospective beneficiaries of the Assistive Technology Fund (ATF) who have obtained Government-subsidised mobility scooters.
  3. Beneficiaries of the Seniors’ Mobility and Enabling Fund (SMF) who have obtained Government-subsidised mobility scooters before 27 February 2026.
  4. Past and future applicants of the MOH disability schemes2 who have been assessed with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) needs in either ‘Mobility’ or ‘Transferring’ via the Functional Assessment Report (FAR) or Severe Disability Assessment (SDA).

You may enter your identification details below to:

  • Verify if you are exempted from the certification requirement, or
  • Confirm if your Certificate of Medical Need has been successfully submitted to LTA.

Please note that it may take up to one week after submission for your certification status to be updated and reflected.

If you are a recent beneficiary of the ATF for government-subsidised mobility scooters and your exemption status has yet to be reflected in the system, please rest assured that you can continue to use your mobility scooter. In the interim, should our officers request verification, you may present relevant documentations such as the ATF approval.

Users of manual wheelchairs with detachable motorised attachments steered by handlebars are also required to have a valid Certificate of Medical Need.

These include the Pioneer Generation Disability Assistance Scheme, Home Caregiving Grant, Migrant Domestic Worker Levy Concession for Persons with Disabilities, CareShield Life, ElderFund, ElderShield, Interim Disability Assistance Programme for the Elderly (IDAPE) and MediSave Care.
